Introducing The Emily Devine Art Kasper & Luna Bags
Here at Zatchels, we’re always looking for ways to embrace creativity and blend interesting designs with expert craftsmanship. Therefore, when Bull Terrier artist Emily Devine approached us with the idea of manufacturing an exclusive range of Bully-themed leather bags, we simply couldn’t say no.
To celebrate the launch of the new Kasper and Luna bags, we thought it was only fitting to shine a spotlight on Emily’s art and introduce the new collection properly. Let’s start by going right back to the roots of the collaboration and reflect on what was an incredibly fun and fulfilling design experience…
About Emily
Emily Devine is a UK-based Bull Terrier artist, who started her brand in 2010. First pup Kasper became her muse and a lifelong love for Bull Terriers quickly translated into fun and unique, Bully-style designs. Emily’s work is all about simplicity and creating art that you can actually use, so merging this style with the practicality and tradition of leather bags was always going to be the perfect fit!
The Design Process
Emily and the Zatchels team were already aware of each other and shared a mutual love for Bull Terriers long before the idea of any collaboration even came about. Emily received her first Zatchels bags and immediately saw the opportunity to add a Bully head to a Handmade Leather Simple Coin Purse. This sparked the creation of a brand collaboration mockup, which we immediately loved.
It wasn’t long before Emily was on her way to our HQ in Leicester and pitching ideas for a fully-fledged collaboration. Designs were then brainstormed and the process of the bags commenced! The Zatchels team were able to use our expertise working with leather to advise on the best ways to bring Emily’s ideas to life, creating several prototypes before the bags you can buy today were finalised. Overall, the Kasper and Luna bags took a year to make and Emily describes it as a “dream come true” to finally see her furry friend-inspired ideas in all of their handmade glory!
The Kasper Bag
The first bag created as part of the Zatchels and Emily Devine collaboration harks back to the dog that started it all: Emily’s first Bull Terrier, Kasper. Kasper was the bigger of Emily’s gorgeous two Bullys and this is cleverly reflected in the fact that the Kasper bag is the bigger option, measuring 20cm wide, 17cm high and 7cm deep. Each Kasper saddle bag features a completely detachable leather strap, as well as a handy sleek and secure magnetic closure for effortless storage of your belongings on the go.
The Kasper is filled with nods towards the beautiful breed, including the standout Bull Terrier silhouette on the front of the bag as well as a Bull Terrier-filled soft velvet lining, matching detachable tassel keyring and the signature Bull Terrier head-shaped swing tag. You can even work with Emily directly to create a totally ‘kustom’ Kasper bag, choosing everything from the colour of the bag to the lining fabric!
The Luna Bag
Featuring the same trademark Bull Terrier shape as the Kasper bag, the neatly sized Luna bag is inspired by Emily’s smaller Bully Luna. The Luna bag is the perfect companion for shopping, brunching and even dog walking, with a handy interior and exterior pockets that can easily fit a phone, purse, keys and even some incredibly glamorous poo bags! We particularly love how this design has been crafted to add personalised touches, as you can choose from a huge range of leather colours and make the most of the adjustable strap for a comfortable and tailored fit.
